We all know P.V Narasimha Rao, our former Prime Minister (1991-1996).
When confronted with a question on why he always keeps silent on all the questions posed to him, he coolly replies “Keeping Silent is also an answer for a question”. Except for the final part of his tenure, we all know about all the revolutions he brought about in India.
Now what does Silence help us achieve in conversation:-
- We remain calm, so we are in better control of the situation.
- Even if there is indifference in opinion, it allows the other person to think whether it would be right for him/her to put forth his point.
- The other person gets an idea of whether you are interested in the conversation.
- It can command respect in a way.
- Empathy Empathy Empathy. You can always think in other person’s {point of view} shoes (If you get a chance, then do run away with it.)
- A speedy solution to a problem.
- It is a win-win situation for all.
Well I know there are many more, but no more boring. Abi tho picture baaki hai dosth.
A favourite dialogue, as it goes from a Tamil movie – “Oruthan ethana pera adikuran nu mukkiyam illa, gammunu evalo peru kitta adi vaanguraan nu thaan mukkiyam.”
